WHAT IS A STYE 👁️ (sonkela)?
A STYE: also known as a hordeolum, is a painful lump on the eyelid caused by a bacterial infection. It's usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
CAUSES OF STYE.
•Bacterial infection (Staphylococcus aureus)
• Clogged oil glands or hair follicles on the eyelid
•Dead skin cells and debris can contribute to the blockage
SYMPTOMS:
•Swollen, painful lump on the eyelid
• Redness and inflammation
•Tenderness to the touch
MANAGEMENT AND TREATMENT
•Warm compresses: Apply a warm, damp washcloth to the affected area to help bring the pus to a head and promote drainage.
•Antibiotics: Topical or oral antibiotics may be prescribed to treat the bacterial infection.
PREVENTION:
To prevent stye, practice good hygiene and take the following precautions:
•Wash your hands regularly
•Avoid touching your eyes
• Avoid sharing makeup or contact lenses
• Clean your eyelids regularly
• Get regular eye exams
IMPORTANT:
Styes are not caused by:
√ Seeing an elderly person's nakedness
√ Someone being stingy
√Pregnancy in the family
It's essential to practice good hygiene and seek medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen.
