They are mothers.
This is for those incredible women whose love speaks loudest in silence, whose strength holds families together, and whose sacrifices often go unseen but never unnoticed.
The Woman Who Wakes Before the World: My Story
My family has faced and still faces its share of struggles. Financial hardship. Health scares. Spiritual battles. Yet through every season, one thing remained steady: my mother’s love. I remember and still see her waking before dawn, sometimes as early as 4 AM. While the rest of us slept, she was already on her feet lighting the charcoal stove, preparing meals, washing clothes, whispering prayers. Always beside my father, she made sure we lacked nothing essential not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too.
She didn’t just teach us manners or how to survive she taught us who God is. Not by preaching, but by example. Through her faith in the middle of difficulty. Through the way she trusted God when resources were low. Through the way she reminded us to pray, to believe, and to never lose hope. She also showed us how to treat people with humility, kindness, and deep respect, no matter their age or background.
She carried weights we didn’t see and protected us from pains we’ll never fully understand.
And honestly? Every time I look back, I smile and think,
“Dad is a lucky man.” Lol
Because he married a warrior... one who built a home with love, strength, and a whole lot of prayer.
Beyond My Story: Mothers Whose Strength Moves Mountains
“We never felt poor because Mom made our small world feel big.”
Even when money was tight and food was scarce, she created joy, turned darkness into warmth, and gave her children confidence when the world didn’t.
Or Agnes, a tomato vendor in Kalikiliki. She spent long hours under the sun saving every kwacha so her daughter could stay in school. She didn’t get the education she dreamed of but she made sure her daughter did. She sold tomatoes, yes but really, she was investing in a future far beyond her own.
These are the kinds of women who don’t wear crowns or make the news but they are the reason many of us stand tall today.
The Greatest Power Is Showing Up with Love
True motherhood is not measured in fancy gifts or titles. It’s found in quiet mornings, long nights, and love that doesn’t quit. It’s in the strength to show up tired, unrecognized, and still willing to give.
It’s cooking when you're sick. Smiling through heartbreak. Holding your family together when everything feels like it’s falling apart.
That’s not just love it’s a superpower. One we should never take for granted.
To all the Mothers, Everywhere
- The least we can do is say thank you.
- Bless them with our words, our prayers, and our presence.
- Celebrate them not just on Mother’s Day, but with our daily actions, our milestones, and the people we become.
- Let the achievements we reach be gifts that reflect their sacrifices.
- Let our gratitude be loud enough to echo back all the quiet love they poured into us.
Because in a world that often forgets the silent strength of mothers we must be the ones who remember.
To all the mothers who never gave up:
We see you. We thank you. We carry your love with us, always.
